Firefighters Teach Kids During Student Awareness Fire Education Week (SAFE)

Above, you will find some photos from S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness Fire Education) Week.

Lt Gary Jackson is the SAFE coordinator for our department. Four members Lt John Ferrick, FF Ismeal (Izzy) Torres, FF Chuck Vincula, and FF Andrew Grecco volunteered for the program in early October in Waltham Public Schools.

We also do not want to forget Firefighter Mellissa McCarthy, who is another SAFE educator. She just had a baby girl and is out on maternity leave. We wish her all the best!!

Our members volunteer their time every year for this vital, lifesaving program. Member firefighters have received training on their own time from the PFALS (Public Fire and Life Safety) program, which is a 40-hour course.

Pictured above is First Grander Ella Centofanti with “Izzy.” Ella is the daughter of Firefighter Stephen Centofanti!

The photos are from our visit to the Douglas MacArthur Elementary school. Firefighters visit all elementary schools every October, including private schools. These dedicated educators also teach CPR and life safty skills to residents and local kids during the annual Waltham Citizens Police Academy.
