What We Do

– HELPING THE COMMUNITY –

Most firefighters believe that being successful in the fire service not only requires providing the highest level of protection to our community but also interacting with and educating the citizens we look after. To benefit people in need, Local 866 members continuously take part in many charitable events throughout the year including; The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”, the MDA’s Ski Muster held at Wachusett Mountain, and the Salvation Army’s “Wish Upon a Star” program.

Every fall, a firm contracted by the Waltham Firefighters Union calls citizens and businesses in the community seeking financial contributions for our Local 866 Solicitation Fund. The Local 866 Solicitation Fund plays a key role in our ability to offer financial assistance to many organizations in the community in need of help. It also funds many of our community service and charitable activities. Additionally, we direct portions of these proceeds to our Welfare and Relief organization which assists firefighter’s families in times of need.

Some of the organizations and groups that benefit when you support us are listed below:

  • MDA
  • The American Cancer Society
  • Waltham School PTOs
  • Waltham Pop Warner football
  • American Legion Baseball

  • Waltham Boys and Girls Club
  • Waltham Girls YBA

  • Babe Ruth Baseball
  • Waltham Youth Hockey

  • The WHS “Mirror” Yearbook
  • Waltham Firefighters Welfare and Relief Association

It is important to note that the majority of the solicitation funds we receive from contracted fundraising firms go directly back into the community.
